Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is our transfer process?
We use a process where we record your film directly from the film's surface (not a projected image) utilizing a proprietary projector. This enables us to give you the best quality picture and ensures that we capture the entire film frame.

  • How many feet of film do I have?
The following are approximate measurements: The small three-inch reels will hold up to 50 feet of film. The larger eight-inch reels will hold up to 400 feet of film. Check the reel itself; many of them have approximate markings on them.

  • How is the total feet of film transferred calculated?
After the transfer is complete, we calculate the number of feet by taking the total time of the film (in minutes) multiplied by 13 feet of film per minute. This way you only get charged for film that is actually available for the final project.

  • What if my film is not in good condition?
We will repair, splice, and clean your film prior to transfer so that we can recover as much of your film as possible. There is an additional charge, at our discretion, if a film reel needs extensive cleaning or repairs. If after initial evaluation of the film, we determine that the film is too damaged to restore, we will notify you immediately and return your film at no charge. We promise to treat your media with the respect necessary to provide the best final project possible for you and your family to enjoy.

  • What if I do not want the whole reel of film in my final project?
We will charge for full amount of film transferred for editing, but you may choose what film clips you want to keep in the final project. See the custom editing information on the Transfer Services page.

  • What is the difference between the transfer cost and the finished master cost?
The transfer cost covers the labor and materials to clean, repair, and transfer your film and editing for the best picture. The finished master cost includes prep work to put the final project onto either a tape or DVD. Both costs are charged on any transfer project.

  • What is the difference between standard editing and custom editing?
Standard editing takes the film reels, video tapes, etc. in the order you specify and transfers them into the final project. Standard editing also includes adjustments to ensure the best quality of transfer possible. Custom editing includes the above and allows you to designate clips or segments of an individual film reel or video tape to be reorganized to meet your project's requirements. You will receive one-on-one time during the editing process to arrange your project and make adjustments. There is an additional charge for custom editing.

  • What if I want to transfer a tape to DVD "as is", without editing?
Go to the duplication section on our Transfer Services page to find the current cost.

  • Can I include music in my final movie project?
If you own the music, include the CD with the songs marked along with your film, and we will add them at no per song charge. If you do not own the music and it is available to download from legal music download sites, we will purchase the song and pass the cost on to you. There is also a music editing fee of $20/hour due to the process it takes to adjust the music to fit your material and include cross-fades where appropriate.

  • What if you find inappropriate material in my film or video?
We are a "family" business and as such will not process inappropriate material. If we discover inappropriate material on your media, we can either exclude that portion from your project and/or terminate the project depending on the extent of the inappropriate material. We will discuss your specific scenario with you before finalizing anything.

  • How many minutes are on a final tape or DVD?
To give you the best quality for your final product, we only use "standard play" mode for tapes. Therefore, we can put up to 120 minutes on one tape. For the same reason, we also limit DVD's to 120 minutes as well to give you the best quality. Shorter DVD projects may be recorded at higher quality settings at our discretion.
